Mother And Child Aka Madonna, 1908

Mother And Child Aka Madonna, 1908

Egon Schiele

In 1908 Egon Schiele painted Madonna and Child that foreshadows the first dead mother painting to come two years later. While alive in structure and expression, the dark faced Madonna has hands around her child’s head, almost grabbing his neck. She conveys an ominous, frightening, anti-maternal aura. In contrast, her plump light skinned child looks robust if not especially happy to be trapped in the lap of his eerie, death-giving mother.

Painting`s original located at Niedersaechsisches Landesmuseum, Hannover, Germany.

The painting will be delivered unstreched, rolled in protective & presentable case.
